Hola amigos dermágicos, en el correo de hoy en la LISTA DERMLIST de Brasil (Dr. George leal), quien muy gentilmente publica las ediciones de DERMAGIC, ví una pregunta interesante, la Dra. Clara Jaramillo de Colombia Pregunta por melanoma en caballos. Espero que no sea cabellos. Me fui a la NET y conseguí 9 referencias interesantes, allí se las mando.,,,

AB: A study of 57 cutaneous melanocytic tumors from 53 horses revealed 4 distinct clinical syndromes: melanocytic nevus, dermal melanoma, dermal melanomatosis, and anaplastic malignant melanoma. Melanocytic nevus and anaplastic melanoma each had histopathologic features that distinguished them from dermal melanoma and dermal melanomatosis. Dermal melanoma and dermal melanomatosis were histologically similar but could be differentiated by their clinical features. Melanocytic nevi were diagnosed in 29 horses with an average age of 5 years; they were solitary, superficial masses that occurred in both grey and nongrey horses, and in which surgical excision was generally curative. Dermal melanomas were diagnosed in 20 horses with an average age of 13 years; all horses of known coat color were grey. Eight horses with an average age of 7 years had 1 or 2 discrete dermal melanomas. Follow-up information was available for 6 horses; metastases occurred in 2 horses, and surgical excision was apparently curative in 4 horses. Dermal melanomatosis was diagnosed in 12 grey horses with an average age of 17 years; all 6 of these horses evaluated had internal metastases. In 2 aged nongrey horses with anaplastic malignant melanoma, the tumors metastasized within 1 year of diagnosis. Two tumors with features of both melanocytic nevus and dermal melanoma remained unclassified.

AB-A: Thirty-eight horses with confirmed thoracic neoplasia included 28 (37.7%) with lymphosarcoma, 4 (10.5%) with metastatic renal cell carcinoma, 2 (5.3%) with primary lung carcinoma, 2 (5.3%) with secondary squamous cell carcinoma from the stomach, 1 (2.6%) with pleural mesothelioma, and 1 (2.6%) with malignant melanoma. The major clinical features included weight loss, inappetence, dyspnoea and coughing, but in cases of lung metastases, they related more to the primary site of tumour formation. Haematological and serum biochemical abnormalities were non-specific. Specific pre-mortem diagnosis was made in 14 horses; this was most readily achieved when exfoliated neoplastic cells were present in pleural fluid. (Abstract from CANCERLIT)

AB-A: A thoroughbred horse, gelding, gray color, aged 19 years old had cutaneous melanomas from the root to the middle of the tail, and throughout the connective tissues of the whole body. Histologically, the tumors were diagnosed as mature melanotic melanomas characteristically deposited with abundant melanin pigment. Examined with an electron microscope, melanosomes were electron opaque without internal structure (stage IV), or as mature granular and lamellar types. Most of them were fused with each other, and formed compound melanosomes, which was similar to internal melanin aggregates in shape. The internal melanin aggregates gradually disintegrated, and compound melanosomes grew spherical. The compound melanosomes changed into autophagosomes. (Abstract from CANCERLIT)

AB-A: A new method was developed to localize the site of transcription within the nucleolus. Incorporation of digoxigenin-labeled UTP in nucleoli of human PHA-stimulated lymphocytes and in equine melanoma cells was visualized with antibodies against digoxigenin and secondary gold-labeled antibodies at the electron-microscopic level. This approach offers much higher spatial resolution than the autoradiographic methods used so far. In both types of cells digoxigenin-UTP was incorporated mainly into the dense fibrillar component; the fibrillar centers, in contrast, did not display significant labeling above background levels.
